Philosophy
The purpose of DancEdge is to create all–around dancers and
to encourage dance as a way of life from teenage years on through
adulthood. To this end, DancEdge teaches partner dances that are
performed to popular music played everywhere from area clubs and
concerts to parties and proms.
Dancers and owners of dance venues
share a symbiotic relationship. Support of local dance venues, including
restaurants, hotels, night clubs and community centers (see link)
that provide dance music and hardwood dance floors is essential
to creating and maintaining a successful dance community. Therefore,
emphasis is placed on teaching dances that are designed for limited
floor space, local dance bands, and popular dj music.
The Universal Unit System® is used in all DancEdge classes
to give students a basic vocabulary and understanding of dance rhythms
and body mechanics that underlie partner dancing. Music played at
DancEdge classes is a fun mixture of popular R&B, jazz, pop,
rock, gospel, hip hop and country (Link
to Catherine’s current dj list).
